Having Your Will witnessed

For your Will to be valid your signature must be witnessed by two people. The following rules regarding the witnessing of a Will are important:

  • Your two witnesses must see you sign your Will but they do not need to read or know the contents your Will.
  • Your two witnesses must sign the Will in your presence.
  • Your two witnesses cannot be people who will gain or benefit under your Will.
  • You do not need to personally know your witnesses. Your solicitor will arrange for someone in their office to witness the Will.

    On the 26th August 2013 in the High Court, the Will of Mrs. Mary Coffey was challenged by her eighty year old brother, Mr. Joseph Dee.
